Good afternoon Det 847,

Major Walters here with a summer safety reminder and update.

During these longer summer days, potential lapses in judgment while engaging in summer activities can impact the readiness of Airmen and Guardian cadets. The attached presentation provides general summer safety information to help you, your team, and your families maintain an active risk management mindset to ensure an enjoyable and safe summer.

Bottom Line, Up Front: Last summer, the Department of the Air Force lost 19 Airmen and Guardians to preventable off-duty mishaps. Motor vehicle, motorcycle and off-road vehicle mishaps were the leading causes... make sure you're assessing and managing risk, and don't become a safety statistic.

Remember if something happens that affects your medical status, you have 72-hours to inform us back at the Det. Please have a safe and fun rest of your summer, and especially have a safe and fun July 4th weekend!
