Aphra Behn Society
March 2012

Announcements:
Fall Newsletter Available at: http://aphrabehn.org/newsletter.htm

Note from the President:
Dear Aphra Behn Society,
The Aphra Behn Society had a triumphant ASECS this year. There were too many papers given and panels chaired by members for me to enumerate, but congratulations in particular are due to Nicole Garret and to Cassie Childs, who each organized and chaired one of our two designated panels. ABO: An Interactive Journal for Women in the Arts, 1640-1830 released its second and entirely redesigned issue just before ASECS, and the roundtable on launching a digital journal generated enthused discussion from attendees both familiar and new. Lively discussion of all three panels continued at our unofficial, crowded, rowdy, and welcoming Aphra Behn Society gathering at the hotel bar. As one panelist who had never attended an ABS event before announced (unsolicited), "I like ASECS, but I really like the Aphra Behn Society."
Impressive as our accomplishments are, we have much to look forward to. We have two designated panels every year at ASECS: please let me know if you would like to organize and chair one for next year. Any topic pertaining to our larger mission, "Women in the arts, 1660-1830," is appropriate. The cfp for our 2013 conference at the University of Tulsa, organized by Jennifer Airey, is on our website (www.aphrabehn.org<http://www.aphrabehn.org/>). ABO is inviting submissions for the next issue, on "Geographies," but the editors always welcome submissions on all topics (http://www.aphrabehn.org/ABO/).
If you joined us in San Antonio, it was great to see you! If we didn't have the pleasure of your company this year, we very much hope you'll join us in 2013, perhaps at ASECS in Cleveland or Aphra Behn in Tulsa or both. (And for those who asked: yes, there will be ABS pins next year, too). Don't forget to renew your membership, either using the form on the website or through the link to Paypal on our website: at $20, we're still a bargain.

Best wishes to everyone for a happy and successful spring (or fall, depending on your hemisphere),

Karen
