Greetings all members:
Martha Bowden's term as Executive President is about to expire, and having renewed it once, she cannot do so again. The Executive Board of the Aphra Behn Society is pleased to nominate Dr. Karen Gevirtz, Assistant Professor of English at Seton Hall University, to be Executive President of the Society for a three-year term. Karen has been a member of the society for many years, since her graduate student days at Emory University. For a number of years, she was our Newsletter Editor. She therefore fulfills the constitutional requirement that she should have served on the Board prior to being nominated for Executive President.
Because the nomination comes forward from the Executive Board, there is no need for a seconder. Any members of the society wishing to put forth other nominations (from the virtual floor, as it were), may do so now, by responding to this email. Nominations close at 12 noon EST on Monday, November 18. Should there be no other nominations, Karen will be presumed elected by acclamation.
The duties of the Executive President are as follows: to oversee the activities of the Society, through the advice and counsel of the Board, and to manage the treasury. In other words, the Executive President also functions as treasurer, maintaining the bank account, overseeing credits and disbursements, and filing the 990E (the yearly e-post card required of nonprofits by the IRS).
Thanks,
Robin
